The signature structure of any gas works, these massive storage tanks dominated
the city skyline. A spider web of steel trusses were needed to withstand the outward
pressure placed on the structure by the gas, and support the heavy telescoping
parts. These black giants were actually the last stop at the plant, used to store
and pressurize the gas before it was fed into underground pipelines to supply
customers.
With its intricate detail and easy construction, this model marks the first time
an American-prototype gas storage tank will be available. A must-have for period
city scenes, and the finishing touch for the complete Empire Gas Works, one or
two tanks can also be used where space is limited to suggest a larger plant nearby.
Realistic printed signs and complete instructions are also included.
The Gas Storage Tank is part of the Empire Gas Works collection that makes it
easy to re-create a universal steam-era industry on your pike.. Other models include
the Gas Plant, the Coke Retort and the Bridge Crane.
