Hiawatha

History

From 1935 on, the name Hiawatha symbolized the fastest and best the Milwaukee Road had to offer. As the original Chicago-Minneapolis streamliners grew in popularity, the road built all-new Hiawatha trains to serve additional Midwestern and Pacific Northwest destinations. The entire fleet was refitted in 1948 with 153 new lightweight cars for the various trains. And in 1952, the Milwaukee revolutionized its luxury service with the first fleet of full-length "Super Dome" cars. Diesels were first assigned in 1941, with the purchase of a single A-A set of DL-109s from ALCo and E6s from EMD. Newer power arrived in 1946 with the delivery of 10 A-A sets of E7s, and 15 A-B-A sets of Fairbanks-Morse Erie-Builts. Based on a typical Twin Cities Hiawatha consist of 1952, Walthers offers a complete collection of 10 authentic Milwaukee cars and locos to model these great streamliners.
