New Walthers HO and O Scale Built-Up Theaters feature Animated Lighting Effects

Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- Walthers announces the release of its new Cornerstone Series(R) Built-Up Palace Theater. Fully assembled and ready to place on your layout, the HO Scale model will be available in February 2003; the O/O-27 model will follow in April 2003.

In the first half of the 20th century, going to the movies was a major event. By the 1940s virtually every small town had at least one movie theater. To make them more enticing and to compete with other amusements, theater owners and promoters did everything they could to make their theaters stand out. Chase lights, starbursts, marching chase lights and plenty of neon radiated the excitement of the silver screen -- the movie house was usually the brightest building on Main Street!

The new Cornerstone Series Built-Up Palace Theater captures all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Through the use of electroluminiscent lighting materials for a neon look, these new models features an illuminated marquee, complete with spectacular animated chase lights, and a tall name sign that erupts from a starburst arch with changing rays of color. At ground level, a ticket booth and lighted entryway with windows for posters beckon moviegoers inside. Other details on the brick building include colorful facade panels, a high roof over the stage/screen area, a rear stage door, and self-clinging letters so modelers can customize the marquee with their choice of movie titles.

The models include a power source that plugs into a standard 120-volt wall outlet, with an on-off switch on one corner of the back wall. The socket and switch allow the model to sit flat without having to cut into the layout surface -- perfect for many beginners' tabletop railroads or Christmas village scenes. For detail-oriented modelers, the plug and switch can be easily disguised by a bush or alley details like a dumpster or truck.

The HO and O/O-27 structures are not the same structure in different sizes. The HO model features four entrance doors and slightly larger proportions. The HO Scale Palace Theater 933-2817 $99.98, measures: 6-1/8" x 9-5/8" x 7" high (15.5 cm x 24.6 cm x 17.8 cm).

The O/O-27 Palace Theater, 933-2713 $129.98, is proportioned to take up less space on the layout. It is a model of a slightly smaller, narrower building with two main entrance doors under the marquee. It measures: 7-1/4" x 12-7/8" x 9-1/8" high (18.5 cm x 32.6 cm x 23.1 cm).

The Palace Theater brings the bright lights of Hollywood to any steam- or diesel-era model railroad. It will also blend in well with other collectible Christmas scene buildings. Like other Cornerstone Series Built-ups, its detail, animation and ease of use will appeal to modelers and collectors of all skill levels.
