Milwaukee, Wis. - Walthers latest release in its line of HO Scale Pullman-Standard streamlined passenger cars is the 48-Seat Diner. This ready-to-run car will be available in March 2007.

Following WWII the nation's railroads were eager to upgrade their passenger fleets with new streamlined cars. The Illinois Central was no exception, and in 1946 placed an order with Pullman-Standard for new streamlined cars for its "Green Diamond," but because of the crush of orders, the cars weren't delivered until 1949. Among them was a 48-seat diner based on plan #7585 named "Shadrach Bond" in honor of Illinois' first governor following statehood. This car, the prototype for the new Walthers 48-Seat Diner, remained in IC service until early 1971 when it was sold to Pacific Railroad Society in California where in 2006, it was being restored to its in-service appearance.

Similar to cars ordered by several railroads during this era, the new Walthers 48-seat diner is a welcome addition to any HO passenger car fleet. The models come ready to run with flush-fitting windows, working diaphragms, full underbody detail and interiors. Each features smooth or corrugated sides as appropriate for each roadname. The car rides on trucks with appropriate GSC 41-N sideframes and metal RP-25 wheels and comes equipped with knuckle couplers. A complete set of modeler-applied grab irons is also provided and each has built-in provisions for the Walthers Passenger Car Interior Lighting Kits: DC Version 933-1049, $10.98, and DCC Version 933-1084, $7.98 (both sold separately). The cars come decorated in the following schemes and each includes car name and number decals:
