| Walthers Canadian 50' Bulkhead Flat Cars Bring a Widely Used Prototype to HO Scale Milwaukee, Wis. - Walthers announces its all-new Gold Line™ Canadian 50' Bulkhead Flat Cars. These ready-to-run freight cars will be available in March 2007. Single cars will retail for $19.98 each and two packs at $36.98.
Introduced in 1972, the prototypes for Walthers Canadian 50' Bulkhead Flat Cars quickly became favorites of the lumber industry. Built by Hawker-Siddeley, the cars were large for the era, offering a loading area of 52'8" between the bulkheads. Distinctive, "chunky" end bulkheads on the cars helped keep lumber bundles from sliding off the ends of the car - a common problem with non-bulkhead cars. When constructed, the cars were used to haul finished lumber from Canadian sawmills, but today are used in all kinds of service including steel, wallboardand logs, in addition to lumber.
As with all Walthers Gold Line freight cars, these ready-to-run models come decorated in several roadnames. Each includes a complete set of add-on wire grab irons; molded drill starter points on the body simplify installation. Magnetic knuckle couplers and free-rolling trucks with RP-25 metal wheel sets ensure smooth, reliable performance. Canadian 50' Bulkhead Flat Cars are available in the following roadnames:
