Milwaukee, Wis. - Walthers announces several new roadnames for the N Scale GSC "Commonwealth" 54' Flat Cars. These ready-to-run models will be available in October 2007.

One of the most common of all flat cars, these rugged designs were in service from the 50s to the 90s and a few still operate today. Built around a large one-piece steel casting, the prototypes could handle a wide range of cargo and were often rebuilt for piggyback loading. These cars are equally at home hauling machinery, steel slabs and more. They were also fitted with bulkheads and handled loads such as lumber and pipe, and a few roads even outfitted them with log bunks for hauling freshly cut timber.

Walthers N Scale GSC "Commonwealth" 54' Flat Cars will add variety to post-50s freight consists. Each car features authentic, razor-sharp paint and lettering with new roadnames and numbers, appropriate trucks and Accumate® magnetic knuckle couplers. The models feature revised diecast bodies for extra weight, reliable tracking and improved detail, and come with or without bulkheads as appropriate. They're available individually and in limited-run two-packs for a total of three roadnumbers per roadname. These beauties will be perfect for the modeler drawn to weathering. The typical flat car saw severe service and would be well plied with distressed wood decking, rust and other damage common to the abuse suffered on every haul.
