Milwaukee, Wis. - Walthers announces a new run of Life-Like PROTO 1000 NSC 50' Newsprint Box Cars in HO Scale. For the first time, these popular 1960s-era cars will be offered as single cars (#920-37150 series, $17.98 each) and in limited-run two-packs (#920-237151 series, $34.98), making available a total of three different roadnumbers for each roadname. All cars will arrive in December 2007.

Beginning in 1967, National Steel Car Corporation began building 70-ton box cars specifically for hauling large rolls of newsprint paper from Canadian mills to customers across the continent. Almost 3,600 were built through 1971 and most are still in service today. They're common sights on almost every railroad, so they look at home in any post-1960s freight train.

Perfect for modelers looking for general-service cars or to upgrade starter sets, these PROTO 1000 models are affordably priced, come fully assembled and feature molded-on detail to stand up to regular handling. The cars also include separate ladder and door latch bars modelers can add for extra authenticity. With magnetic knuckle couplers and blackened-metal RP-25 wheels, they're a great choice for use on operations-oriented layouts too.
