Walthers is pleased to announce the arrival of new PROTO 2000 EMD E7 diesels to haul the 1955 Twin Cities Hiawatha HO Scale passenger train. Featuring Milwaukee Road-specific details, these powered locos are available with Quantum® sound and DCC or as standard DC models.

Fast Facts: As America's railroads rebuilt their passenger service following World War II, premiere trains received new equipment from engine to observation car. And once production resumed in 1945, many were led by brand-new E7 diesels from EMD. An improved version of the earlier E6, the E7 was powered by a pair of 567A prime movers rated at 2000 total horsepower. Most of the notable changes were seen on the body and included a new and much smaller Bulldog nose, as well as a large, vertical louver or screen panels directly behind the cab doors. With 428 A units and 82 cabless B units produced for 28 railroads through 1949, the E7 was the most successful passenger diesel ever built.

The Milwaukee Road assigned EMD E7s to its premier Twin Cities Hiawatha when it was re-equipped with all-new cars. By 1955 the locomotives wore the classy orange-and-maroon Hiawatha scheme.
