Walthers announces new details and roadnames for its Heritage N Scale Steam Collection USRA 0-8-0. These new models make a great addition to any steam- or transition-era layout.
Fast Facts: When the United States Railway Administration (USRA) assumed control of the nation's railroads during World War I there was a dire need for larger and more powerful switch engines. The USRA designed both a light (0-6-0) and heavy switcher (0-8-0) and construction began in 1918. Between 1918 and 1920 Alco, Baldwin and Lima constructed 175 USRA 0-8-0s that were allocated to 21 different railroads. These locos proved themselves in all kinds of yard, transfer and industrial service. Following the end of USRA control in 1920 many roads ordered copies. Over 1,100 were constructed for more than 35 railroads. Other lines customized and improved the design to meet their needs, and in 1953 the last steam loco built in the U.S. was an N&W copy of the USRA design.
Features: This new release of N Scale Heritage Steam Collection 0-8-0s introduces locos with ladder-style front steps. These models include traction tires for superior pulling power, all-wheel electrical pickup on loco and tender, a powerful three-pole skew-wound motor, a heavy diecast split-frame chassis, railroad-specific details, constant intensity and directional LED headlights on loco and tender and Accumate® knuckle couplers on pilot & tender. All drivers are geared and the models are flywheel equipped for smooth operation. Each is DCC ready with an eight-pin socket in the tender. RP-25 contour wheels allow operation on all brands of Code 55 or larger rail.
