Milwaukee, Wis. - Walthers announces new Tri-Level Enclosed Auto Carriers will join the Gold Line™ selection of HO Scale freight cars in January 2008. Available as single cars and in limited-run two packs with three different numbers for each roadname, modelers will be able to quickly and easily build a fleet of these common prototypes.
As growing numbers of imported automobiles arrived in America, railroads found themselves in need of more tri-level auto racks to handle the increase in business. At the same time intermodal traffic was rapidly switching from trailers to containers and well cars, making many older 89' flat cars available for conversions. Many of these were newer flush deck cars, which could easily be fitted with enclosed auto racks and the smaller 28" wheels used to increase overhead clearance. Today, many of these cars are still going strong.
Based on these common conversions, Walthers newest Tri-Level Enclosed Auto Carriers are right at home on contemporary railroads. The models come fully assembled with working knuckle couplers and metal RP-25 wheels. Superdetailing is easy, as Walthers includes a set of modeler-applied, formed wire grab irons, and handy drill starter points are molded on the body.
