Walthers is pleased to announce the addition of new roadnames and body and roof variations with its latest release of Heavyweight Pullman-Built Paired-Window Coaches. Five new models will be available soon.
Fast Facts: Based on cars ordered by the Baltimore & Ohio, built to plan #2882-B, Walthers Pullman-Built Paired-Window Coach is typical of heavyweight coaches used on many railroads. Unlike Pullman sleepers, chair cars were typically owned and operated by the railroads, offering seating for short-distance passengers. They were usually lettered for the owning railroad, but painted to match the rest of the train's equipment. As passenger equipment was modernized in the 1930s, some heavyweight coaches received air conditioning for use on important trains, altering their rooflines and introducing sealed windows with rounded corners. They remained in service on some roads into the 1960s and many migrated into work train duty. Today, quite a few are still operated in excursion service by museums and tourist railroads.
Features: Each car has all the features modelers expect from Walthers heavyweights including appropriate trucks with metal sideframes, RP-25 metal wheelsets, full underbody details, interiors, working diaphragms, PROTO Max™ all-metal knuckle couplers and built-in contacts for Walthers Interior Lighting Kits (sold separately). The cars also feature as-built or modernized windows and clerestory or balloon roofs as appropriate for each roadname.
