New Roadnumbers for Walthers N Scale Five-Unit Articulated Double Stack Well Cars
Walthers N Scale Five-Unit Articulated Double Stack Well Cars offer modelers good looks and reliable performance at an affordable price. They're perfect for adding to any modern intermodal train.
Fast Facts: Thrall introduced a new five-unit articulated well car in 1983, equipped with interbox connectors (IBCs) to lock containers on the car using the container's four corner castings. By the late 1980s, longer 45 and 48' containers were in service, and the design was again reworked to accommodate these heavier loads in the middle wells. The prototype for this model has additional reinforcements and IBCs to carry everything from a pair of 20' containers to a single 48' container in any of the bottom wells. Stacked containers are held in place by the IBCs on the container in the bottom well. The articulated design of the cars uses four fewer trucks over their five-platform length than stand-alone designsÐthus saving fuel through the reduction of rolling drag.
Features: These affordable ready-to-run models feature authentically painted die cast metal bodies for great performance loaded or empty. Articulated couplings between the cars are designed for reliable performance and ease of use. Injection-molded walkways and brakewheel details applied to the die cast body offer modelers more detail. The cars come equipped with free-rolling trucks and standard N Scale couplers. All cars wear the Pre-2007 TTX scheme and are ideal for use with Walthers 40' and 48' intermodal containers (#933-3400 and 933-3450 series respectively, sold separately).
