Processing Center Kit
Processing Center Kit is the Heart of the North American Ethanol Series

Walthers announces the arrival of the Cornerstone® Processing Center. This HO Scale North American Ethanol series kit is based on a key structure in the ethanol making process.

Fast Facts: The production of ethanol, a type of alcohol used in motor fuel blends is big business. Its use in gasoline blends reduces gas emissions and lessens dependence on foreign oil. Corn is the main feedstock and thousands of carloads are moved each week to production plants across the continent. Ethanol plants produce two main products: ethanol that is shipped in tank cars, and distillers dried grains (DDG), a byproduct used in animal feed. The processing center is where corn is milled and mixed with water and enzymes. The mixture, called mash, is cooked to break down starches into simple sugars. From here, the mixture is piped into fermentation tanks where yeast converts the sugars into ethanol.

Features: The Processing Center kit includes the main corrugated-metal building, five tanks, three distillation towers, an outside stairway, an exterior heat exchanger, handrails and appropriate roof vents. Kit parts are made of injection-molded plastic and come molded in appropriate colors. Decals signs are also included. While based on a specific ethanol industry building, this structure has all the looks of a facility used to process foods, oils, chemicals and more. For freelance modelers looking for interesting structures, it will look at home in many light industrial areas, especially when grouped with modern warehouses.
