| New Roadnames & Roadnumbers for Popular Walthers Trinity RD-4 Coal Hoppers Walthers announces the release of additional roadnames
and roadnumbers to its line of HO Scale Gold Line™ Trinity RD-4 Coal Hoppers. Four new six-car sets will be available soon.
Fast Facts: Introduced in the 1990s by Trinity, the RD-4 (Rapid Discharge IV) was built for modern coal users. Featuring lightweight aluminum construction, the cars are slightly larger than earlier designs, allowing them to carry 4,200 cubic feet of payload. To further reduce operating costs, the cars are fitted with five rapid discharge bays that permit unloading while in motion. Some users have added rotary couplers so that cars can be unloaded with existing rotary dumpers, and run with coal gondolas such as BethGon CoalPorters. The cars are currently in service with many railroads and utility companies, where they operate in unit trains between mines and power plants.
Features: Walthers ready-to-run Gold Line HO Trinity RD-4 Coal Hoppers feature highly detailed bodies and a diecast underframe. The models come equipped with PROTO Max™ all-metal knuckle couplers for strength and reliable operation in long trains. To make it easy to model a complete unit train, the cars come in six packs. Each includes cars painted for the same owner, featuring different roadnumbers.
