Two New Roadnumbers for Trainline® F40PHs

Walthers announces two new roadnumbers for its HO Scale Trainline EMD F40PH diesel locomotives.

Fast Facts: Introduced in 1976, the F40PH was designed for shorter Amtrak routes, and equipped with head-end power (crews exposed to the constant roar of the HEP equipment and turbocharger called F40PHs "screamers" and "jets" among other nicknames) to supply electricity to new and refurbished cars. As built, the units had a 500-kilowatt alternator and a 1200-gallon fuel tank. Later examples were delivered with a larger 800-kilowatt alternator and 1800-gallon fuel tanks especially for use with the new Superliner® cars on long-distance trains serving the western states. Eventually serving system-wide, Amtrak owned the largest fleet with 216 units, retiring its last active locos in the late 1990s. The second largest user was the Chicago Regional Transit Authority (RTA), with a fleet of 180. While some have reached the end of the line, many were sold to other users, including foreign lines, as well as regional commuter and excursion services.

Features: Ideal for use with Walthers passenger cars, the models are equipped with a powerful motor, smooth running mechanism, working headlight and body-mounted knuckle couplers. Great for beginners and experienced modelers alike, the engines will be available in two schemes:
