Fast Facts: Since the late 1980s, bulkhead flatcars have simplified loading and unloading of lumber products at sawmills and commercial building centers. The end bulkheads prevent end-to-end shifting of the load in transit, while a centerbeam provides additional strength to increase the carrying capacity. Designed especially for wrapped lumber and similar building materials, the open sides allow for quick and easy access by forklifts.
