Fast Facts: Mail and express shipments were big moneymakers for railroads. Walthers’ ACF 70' Baggage-Express and Mail Storage cars are replicas of the cars constructed by American Car & Foundry that ran right up to the start of Amtrak. They served many railroads and often operated on connecting roads passenger trains, so it was not unusual to find cars from eastern roads in western states or vice versa. The cars typically operated behind the motive power and ahead of the passenger-carrying cars. It was also not uncommon for these cars to be mixed and matched with streamliner consists. Several often ran on each train - especially on all-stops secondary trains.
