Walthers is pleased to announce, for the first time, new Heavyweight HO Scale models with factory-installed grab irons. These ready-to-run replicas are based on Maintenance-of-Way cars that served from the 1950s to the 1990s on roads throughout North America.
Fast Facts: The rails were once ruled by heavyweights, but the emergence of lighter cars and the reduced number of passenger trains saw the end of their reign in the 1950s. Replaced, but not forgotten, many of these heavy cars were rebuilt and reassigned. As a result, Maintenance-of-Way cars found new purpose as living quarters at job sites throughout North America. People who worked on or near the rails lived, slept and ate in revived M-O-Ws well into 1990s.
Features: Now featuring factory-installed grab irons, these models are based on equipment used from the 1950s-1990s and wear authentic Maintenance-of-Way paint and lettering. With interior details, factory-installed side door handrails and Proto MAX™ metal knuckle couplers, these cars make perfect additions to work train consists. Lighting can easily be added with Walthers Interior Lighting Kits #933-1087 (DC Version) or 933-1088 (DCC Version), sold separately.
