Following their career on the Milwaukee Road's Hiawathas, full-length Super Domes continued in service for other owners. Walthers is pleased to announce these popular cars in four additional schemes.

Fast Facts: In 1952 the Milwaukee Road took delivery of its full-length Super Domes for use on its premier Hiawatha streamliners. The cars offered passengers a full view of the passing scenery through their wrap-over windows. With plenty of seating and a lounge under the dome, these cars were an instant hit with passengers. With the 1961 end of the Olympian Hiawatha, six domes were considered surplus and were reassigned to other Hiawatha trains and to partner UP's City streamliners. The surplus Super Domes were sold to CN for its Super Continental. Following the end of Milwaukee Road passenger service the remaining four cars went to Amtrak.

For the same reasons they were popular on the Hiawathas, once the Super Domes left Amtrak and VIA (CN's passenger successor) service they proved popular with private owners, excursion and tour companies. Even Class I lines Chessie System and Chicago & North Western used them in special service for a few years. The cars have since been through many owners throughout the continent, with eight of the 10 still in service in 2009.

Features: These superbly detailed cars are equipped with factory-installed electrical pickups, Proto MAX™ metal knuckle couplers and correct GSC six-wheel trucks with RP-25 wheels. Modeler-applied wire grab irons are also supplied. The cars feature the correct prototype length and underbody detail so a minimum 24" radius is recommended for operation.
