Walthers announces its latest Cornerstone® Built-ups model - Wadhams. This distinctive gas station is fully assembled, decorated and layout ready.
Fast Facts: In 1917 Wadhams Oil and Grease Company hired prominent Milwaukee architect Alexander Eschweiler to design their new gas stations. Eschweiler's eye-catching pagoda-roofed design became an early example of using architecture to establish brand identity. Approximately 100 Wadhams were built in the upper Midwest between 1917 and 1930. Each station was unique but all featured the distinctive pagoda-style roof, black walls and yellow trim, making them instantly recognizable. In 1930 Wadhams was purchased by Vacuum Oil, which merged with Socony in 1931 and later became Mobil. The stations were eventually repainted in Mobil's red and white color scheme. Only a handful remain, all serving other uses. The West Allis, Wisconsin, station that our model is patterned after was restored in 2000 to its 1950s state. In 2004, it was designated a historic landmark.
Features: This finely detailed model is painted in the classic "Bumblebee" paint scheme of yellow and black. The elaborate pagoda-style roof simulates the stamped metal tile roof common to all Wadhams stations. Additional features include the stained glass "W" logo in the eaves, four non-operating lampposts, decorated picket fencing and a separate gas pump island that holds three 1920s-style "clockface" pumps. This all-new model comes fully assembled and decorated. The main building measures 3-1/8 x 2-1/2 x 2-5/8" 7.9 x 6.5 x 6.7cm.
