How - and why - we collect information.
Your IP Address.
Our web server automatically collects some information about your computer when
you visit our site. One bit of information that we need is your “IP address,”
a unique number that is used by computers on the Internet to identify your computer
so that web pages and graphics can be sent to you. IP addresses are usually dynamic,
meaning you’re assigned a different one by your Internet Service Provider (ISP)
each time you connect to the Internet. That number lets us know some generic things
about our site, such as with what parts of the world we’re popular. Also, if we
ever have a problem with our computers (rare, but it happens), IP addresses can
help us diagnose and fix it. Your IP address does not contain anything that can
identify you personally.
Cookies.
In order for Walthers.com to remember your shopping cart information, we place
a small piece of text, called a “cookie,” in the memory of your browser.
This stores a little information about how you use our site on your computer,
where it can only be retrieved by us at a later time. This is how our site remembers
you from visit to visit, and lets you customize some of our site. Cookies make
our site much more convenient for you.
Mailing List.
If you’d like to be on our Walthers.com mailing list, naturally we need your contact
information to send information about our sales and new products. When you sign
up for the mailing list, we request some demographic information about you, such
as your age, favorite road name, and years in the hobby — it is completely optional
information, and we use that to help decide what kinds of products we should produce
in the future. We do share our mailing list with selected business partners; however,
if you’d like to be removed from our mailing list, you will also be removed from
the mailing lists of our partners (unless you have given them your information
directly by making a purchase from them). If you’d like to be removed from our
mailing list, call a customer service representative at 1-800-4TRAINS (1-800-487-2467, or 1-414-527-0770).
Ordering
Walthers.com uses an order form for customers to purchase products. Obviously,
in order to send your purchases, we collect your contact and shipping information
as well as financial information (credit card numbers). Financial information
collected is used to bill you for products. We do not merge this information with
our mailing list.
Third Parties.
If you opt to complete your purchase from one of the on-line hobby shops instead
of Walthers, your contact / shipping and financial information will
then be passed on to the selected hobby shop for processing. In those circumstances, different rules may apply to information you disclose to them. These third party service providers will have their own privacy customs and policies. Since Wm. K. Walthers, Inc. does not control the privacy policies of those providers; you are subject to the privacy customs and policies of those providers. Additionally, this information may or may not be transmitted to such third parties in a secure fashion. We encourage you to ask questions before you disclose your personal information.
