The RSC-2 was essentially an Alco RS-2 on six axles. The 1,500-horsepower
units, powered by Alco 244 series engines, were designed for branches and
other lines with light rail. Their six axles spread out the weight on the
rail by reducing per-axle weight. Like their four-axled brethren RS-2s,
they were equally at home working freight and passenger runs. Owning
railroads typically purchased them to work specific assignments on certain
branch lines. On some roads they were later converted to RS-2s by adding
two-axle trucks once the trackage on their lines was upgraded or abandoned.
Their distinctive trucks and the scenic routes they typically plied have made
them popular with fans and modelers.
These models feature a five-pole, skew-wound motor and dual flywheels,
12-wheel drive and electrical pickup, directional headlights and knuckle
couplers, so they'll perform as good as they look.
