Originally constructed for the Milwaukee Road's Hiawatha passenger trains, full-length Super Dome cars were operated by other railroads following the road's exit from passenger service.

Canadian National purchased six surplus cars from the Milwaukee Road in the mid-1960s from for use on the Super Continental and Panorama trains, offering an unparalleled view of the Canadian wilderness. VIA Rail Canada assumed operation of CN passenger trains in 1977 and the cars were repainted into VIA's blue scheme in the late 70s and early 80s. The cars operated on Via trains into the early 1980s.
