Railroads are called upon to move all kinds of loads, many of which are big and heavy. When presented with this type of loading, a depressed center flat car is often used. As the name implies, the center is lower than the ends to provide additional clearance for the load when moving under bridges or other obstructions. To spread the weight and increased the carrying capacity of the car, additional trucks may be used, such as the four-truck design which serves as the prototype for this kit.
