This detailed Atlas HO Scale Master Gold GE Dash 8-40B (and nearly identical Dash 8-39B) is based on the four-axle diesels delivered to a variety of railroads. Built in the late 1980s by General Electric, the Dash 8-40B (and externally identical B39-8) diesel locomotives were identified by their dynamic brake gear located along the roof line between the cab and engine compartment, with ventilation provided by large roof-top grilles. These four-axle, high horsepower engines are still in service today in North America. This detailed model features a five-pole, skew-wound motor with dual flywheels, directional LED lighting, working front and/or rear ditch lights as appropriate, Accumate(R) magnetic knuckle couplers, accurate decoration and other roadname-appropriate body details. This replica comes equipped with a dual-mode ESU LokSound sound and DCC decoder for operation on DCC and DC layouts (with limited sound capabilities on in DC operation). The GE Dash 8-40B is one of many Atlas HO Scale locomotives.
