The view through passenger car windows is always changing. From the horse-drawn wagons seen through the curtain lined windows of the earliest wooden coaches to the snow-capped peaks looking up through the wrap-over windows of an Amtrak® Sightseer® Lounge, the excitement of train travel is real. As passenger train travel grew in the early 1900s wood passenger cars gave way to heavyweight steel cars as basic as coaches and as elaborate as parlor-lounge-observation cars. The name trains we’ve all known and loved, most with sleek streamlined equipment such as popular vista dome cars, appeared in the 1930s and lasted into the early 1970s with the beginning of Amtrak. Today streamlined cars are still mainstays, but modern Superliner®, Amfleet®, Viewliner and Horizon cars are the norm. No one has the variety of HO Scale, N Scale, or O Scale passenger car models that Walthers does.
