With the increased popularity of trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles, bi-level enclosed auto carriers play a more important role in moving new vehicles to customers. Although outwardly similar to tri-level rail cars, only two decks are used because trucks are taller, longer and heavier than automobiles (10 trucks is typically a full load).
Walthers HO Scale kits produce a great-looking model with a minimum of effort. The one-piece body (the flat car portion of the model, end doors and superstructure are molded as a single unit, similar to a box car kit) comes prepainted and lettered in the correct color. Separate side panel sections are prepainted and lettered to match the prototypes, along with a separate roof that's painted aluminum.
The cars are the proper 89' length and include a special swinging (radial) coupler mounting to improve operation on curves. (Minimum track radius is 22"; however, 24' or larger is recommended for best performance.)
