Product Information

Amtrak's Auto Train moves both passengers and their vehicles from Lorton, Virginia to Sanford, Florida. The vehicles ride in 2- and 3-level autoracks which are pulled behind the passenger cars. Amtrak began this service in October 1983, 22 months after failed expansion plans and two expensive wrecks caused Auto-Train Corporation to abandon the train it ran since 1971. To this day, the Auto Train is Amtrak's most successful long-distance train. The train makes the 855 mile run with just one stop in South Carolina for fuel and a crew change. Fully assembled, ready-to-run model comes equipped with Micro-Trains(R) couplers.
