A waterfall of fire flashes orange against the night sky, silhouetting
clouds of steam. Running nonstop to feed the blast furnaces, Coke Ovens are
an essential part of most steel works. Here, unit trains of coal are baked
into coke, a high carbon fuel used in steel making and many other
industries. You'll also find coke ovens at mines, and as stand-alone
industries. The model starts the Crusher, with its detailed metal
siding, rugged I-beam supports, safety cage ladders and other details,
including a simulated dump pit to receive loads of coal. The Storage Bunker
also features steel construction and an enclosed conveyor. The heart of the
operation is the battery of coke ovens, with detailed doors, walkways,
large concrete smokestack, governor house and many other parts. For the
final step, car loads of coke can be run through the Quench Tower
with its many authentic details. Total area for all buildings measures 28
x 19 x 14" 70 x 47-1/2 x 35cm.
