Amtrak(R) 1700 Series Baggage Car (ex-Heritage Fleet Coaches) Ready to Run -- Amtrak - Phase IV

Product Information

The arrival of new Superliner II cars in 1996 allowed many older Heritage Fleet Budd-built coaches to be "retired, " but they soon proved the perfect starting point for some prototype kitbashing! As Amtrak's package and mail business grew, these older cars offered a quick and affordable way to acquire more equipment for this service for less than the cost of an all-new car. All of the original interior furnishings were removed, windows were plated over with stainless steel panels and a large roll-up door was installed in the center on each side.

Today, they operate system wide on most long-distance trains as well as medium- and short runs. Traditionally, they can be found right behind the engines and are used to carry passenger's luggage as well as express packages and mail. Some cars are specifically assigned to sealed bulk mail service and wear U.S. Post Office logos to indicate their specialized role.

A great addition to your HO Amtrak trains, Walthers all-new models come fully assembled and prepainted in the current Phase IV Amtrak and US Postal Service schemes. Each is loaded with details like authentic Amtrak style ends, working diaphragms, interior vestibule bulkheads and the big roll-up baggage doors unique to these cars. Add-on wire grab irons, diecast metal GSC Commonwealth trucks, blackened metal 36" wheelsets, working knuckle couplers and a sheet of car number decals are also included.
