After extensive trials, the Deutsche Reichsbahn purchased its first large self-unloading cars in 1927. From then until 1932, 520 of these coal cars were put into service. They were used, among other things, for the transportation of Silesian coal to power stations in Berlin. These wagons were generally drawn by an E 95 electric locomotive designed for this specific purpose. Like all self-unloading cars, they were assigned to the area of Oldenburg. When Oldenburg was dissolved in 1934, they were reassigned to Saarbrücken.
