There are plans to fit 140 locomotives of the 232 series with new engines. The new engines, like the original ones, were manufactured by Kolomna in Russia. When they have been fitted with these new engines, the locomotives will be in the new 233 series and are used by Deutsche Bahn Cargo / Railion Deutschland for heavy-freight service. Locomotives feature a heavy metal frame, detailed plastic body, five-pole skew-wound motor, DCC decoder socket, directional head/tail lights and NEM couplers.
