Introduced in the fall of 1949, the SW7 offered railroads all the advantages of the NW2 but in a more powerful 1200 horsepower version. While the engines shared many basic components, the SW7 required a larger radiator that filled the front of the nose. In April of 1950, EMD made some production modifications to the cab, replacing the rounded windows with a simpler, square design.
 
Perfect for any yard assignment, these new models will be offered in Phase I with rounded windows and the later Phase II versions with square windows. A powerful five-pole can motor, directional headlights, full cab interior, authentic paint and more are all included. Engines will handle 18" radius curves.
