The 1,500hp MP15DC was designed by EMD as a replacement model for the successful SW1500 switcher. Its longer frame allowed increased fuel capacity and application of smoother-riding Blomberg road trucks. The first MP15DCs hit the rails in 1974 and the last rolled off the line in January 1983. Employed by mainline, shortline and industrial railroads across North America in road freight and yard switching duties.
The Atlas model features roadname-specific detail variations including three different styles of long hood: standard hood, hood with square air filter box and hood with angled air filter box (the air filter box is located in the area immediately ahead of the cab). In addition, various styles of hood and cab-end sand boxes are being offered. Other features include golden-white LED headlights, plenty of applied details, AccuMate knuckle couplers and more.
