This Broadway Limited HO Scale EMD SD9 Paragon3 diesel locomotive is based on six-axle units introduced in February 1954 as the successor to the SD7. The SD9 was the 1750hp big brother to the GP9, part of their Nine Line upgrade. With the success of the SD7, EMD brought forward many improvements in the SD9 with a small boose in horsepower to 1750 from 1750 in the SD7. The nine Line of diesels included the SW9/1200, the F9A/B, the GP9 and the SD9. With the SD7, EMD introduced the lightweight Flexicoil truck which enabled these locomotives to be used on branchlines as well as for road service. The new SD9 retained these smooth-riding trucks. These trucks were so smooth that the SD9 was compared to riding in a luxury car and old railroaders on the SP called them "Cadillacs."
 
This HO Scale model has full Paragon3 sound and DCC for realistic sound and motor control and is designed to work with all Broadway Limited Rolling Thunder(TM) advanced sound systems. Other features include a smooth-running flywheel-equipped drive, directional lighting and magnetic knuckle couplers. This HO Scale EMD SD9 can be operated on all DCC systems as well as on standard DC railroads (with limited sound functionality). The unit has wheels profiled to operate on Code 83 and larger rail and curves of 18" radius or larger. The EMD SD9 has been long lived and many were rebuilt for continued switching will look right at home on your 1950s to 2000s layout in road and switching duties.
