Classic Building for Transition Engine Terminals
This unique kit is based on Santa Fe's sandhouse in San Bernardino, California, as it appeared in the late 40s and 50s after it was expanded and adapted for sanding diesel locos as well as steam. Similar sand houses were used throughout the system (and by other roads), though there were differences in each.
The kit includes materials for the main building, the sand bin, and the trestle leading to the bin. Walls are cut from thin plywood that resists warping and still makes for a very durable model. Ladders, windows, glazing, roofing material and a door are cut specifically for the kit. Wire is included for modeling the sanders, which requires some soldering. The kit also includes Tichy nut-bolt-washer castings, light fixtures and a track bumper, along with a custom fire extinguisher casting, made especially for this model.
