Designed to support fast-moving forces, the Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) is currently used by US Army and Marine Corps units. Each consists of three parts; a chassis from an M60 or M48 tank, a launcher mounted on the chassis and a 60' long scissors type bridge. The two-person crew is protected by the armored hull and the bridge can be placed in two to five minutes, or recovered in about 10 minutes. Designed for use by both wheeled and tracked vehicles weighing up to 70 tons, the bridge can span a gap as large as 60'.
