This volume covers the early years of the Norfolk Southern from its formation in 1982 until the Conrail split in 1999. Over 220 color photographs documents operations over the entire NS system, from the Middle Atlantic and Deep South to the Midwest, including a brief look at the predecessor lines merged into the N&W and Southern Railway prior to the creation of the NS.
