Building on four years of experience with their racehorse 4-6-4s, the Central received this final series of J1s in 1931. This group incorporated all the latest equipment such as Baker valve gear, feedwater heaters, stokers and cast engine frames as well as roller bearings in various applications. These were truly "state-of-the-art" machines and were usually seen on the point of the road's most famous passenger trains.
These locos have been revised with a new chassis, an all-new drive mechanism for quiet and smooth operation, plus a new electrical pick-up system with split frame design. Other new features include an optional traction-tire equipped driver set, nickel-plated drivers, working Kadee(R) knuckle couplers at front and rear, and a realistic amber-colored headlight.
