1956 Super Chief

The Super Chief of the mid-1950s was truly in a class by itself. A veritable five-star hotel on wheels, less than half its assigned equipment was composed of revenue-cars, while the rest served only to pamper its exclusive clientele. Riders found every amenity on board, including gourmet meals, a private dining room, comfortable lounges (including newly remodeled Vista series Observation-Lounge Sleepers rebuilt with blunt ends for possible mid-train service) and luxurious sleeping rooms. Maintaining its blistering schedules meant small consists, transforming the train into a cozy refuge for the elite of Hollywood and Wall Street alike.
