Based on a car designed by the United States Railway Administration (USRA) during World War I, this steel caboose became a fixture on many northeastern railroads. Over 40 different lines owned cars of this type and some saw over 60 years of service.
The PROTO 2000 steel center-cupola caboose comes fully assembled and ready for service. Each authentic replica has over 75 separate parts including a complete interior with potbelly stove, sink and bunks, plus a complete underbody with brake cylinder, triple valve, air reservoir, brake rods and clevises. The cars ride on authentic Bettendorf swing motion caboose trucks and include magnetic knuckle couplers.
