At the start of the 60s, a decision was made at the Deutsche Reichsbahn to equip some of the locomotives with a Giesel flat ejector. Due to the improved utilization of the fuel, a significant quantity of coal was saved.
From 1966 onwards, all locomotives of the BR 65.10 series were fitted with this changed chimney. The original of the 65 1086-1 was based at Bw Güsten, Est Aschersleben and was looked after in an exemplary manner by the planning personnel. So that they were able to recognize their own" locomotive even from a distance, they gave the machine an individual touch which included white buffer rings, surrounding edges and white edging on the signs.
