Leading the way is a sleek AMD-103 locomotive, based on Amtraks most widely used engine, wearing the current Amtrak paint scheme. Manufactured exclusively for Walthers by Athearn, the loco features a heavy diecast chassis, a powerful motor with dual flywheels for smooth operation, and realistic details including a working headlight and etched-metal rooftop grille. The AMD-103 pulls three Walthers Superliner II passenger cars: a Coach, a Dining Car and a Sightseer Lounge that are fully assembled with metal wheels, working diaphragms between cars and body-mounted, working knuckle couplers. The set also includes a large 44 x 63" oval of Atlas Snap-Track and a solid-state MRC 1300 power pack.
As an added bonus, the set includes a free video and booklet designed for new model railroaders. As part of the Worlds Greatest Hobby campaign, the video gives budding modelers helpful advice about setting up their first layout.
