In the early 1980s, Greenville Steel Car Company introduced a hopper for powdered materials. Cement proved to be too heavy for the car, so a slightly smaller version was created for cement service. This smaller car was also sold as a general-purpose covered hopper and can be found carrying plastic pellets, roofing granules, flour, grain and more.
