These ready-to-run cars are fully compatible with American Flyer trains and will operate on two-rail track. Cars include Grip n Go talgo mounted, operating knuckle couplers. (Coupler pads are cored to accept Kadee #802 couplers, sold separately.) Each rides on diecast metal, sprung and equalized trucks, with Code 110 wheels.
 
Built to aid the World War I war effort, the prototypes featured double-sheathed wooden sides with a 40-ton fishbelly steel underframe. They were seen in steam and diesel consists until the mid-1960s, as well as in work train service until the 1980s.
