Product Information
Popular Steam Engines for Fast Passenger Service
First built by Baldwin and delivered to the Atlantic Coast Line in 1894, 4-4-2s found a home in high-speed passenger service on many railroads. They were built over a period of about 25 years to haul wood-frame passenger cars. As steel passenger cars became popular during the 1910s, 4-4-2s could no longer handle the load and were replaced by more powerful 4-6-2s, but a few were still in service until the 1950s.
Based on a PRR prototype, this die-cast steam locomotive and tender are authentically painted and lettered. Puffing smoke, an illuminated headlight and transformer-activated whistle and bell sound add to the realism. Electrical pickup on both the loco and tender provide smooth running.
