Big Domes and British Pubs

This week we found a wonderful mix of modeling projects from custom freight and passenger cars to superdetailed structures. The imagination and ingenuity shown by our fellow model railroaders is truly inspiring. Click on the links below to see more and be sure to share your own favorite scene or model on our social media pages.

Big Dome Big Detail
Might have to call a travel agent and book a trip on this Santa Fe route. Railmaster Hobbies added LED lighting and plenty of passengers to take this otherwise stock model to a new level!
Don’t Foul Out!
Fouling out in baseball is bad, but fouling a switch with a derailed car is arguably worse. Poster @ironroadmodels helps operators on his HO railroad with what he refers to as foul lines at various switching locations. As in the video above, as long as a car is spotted behind the foul line (the yellow tie in front of the hopper), it won’t get clipped by a passing train.
Up on the Roof
For most layouts, roofs are the most visible part of buildings and rolling stock, making them a natural for superdetailing and weathering. Check out this awesome job from Models by Mark on the Cornerstone Industrial Office!
Time for a Pint
UK modeler Claire Gilmore scratchbuilt a 3D interior and added other custom details to turn this Walthers Cornerstone kit into a classic British pub. Click on the white arrows to see more views, and be sure to follow @claireschristmastrains to see more of Claire’s superb work.
High, Wide, Handsome!
Railroads have long been called on to move oversize loads, but WWII brought new problems that needed fast solutions. Bruce Smith shares one of them in this excellent HO model of a Trident Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel (LCVP) en route aboard a Tichy flatcar.

We hope you enjoy these scenes and discussions as much as we enjoy bringing them to you! Check out our newest announcements in the recent New Product Express video.
