Mix it Up
Railroads have been hauling freight and passengers from day one, but there were times when both traveled together! Known as "mixed trains," many served branchlines and less traveled routes into the 1950s. Looks like we still have time to get our ticket and visit Joel Moore's layout!

They Only Come Out at Night
Day time is usually the busy time, but railroads really never sleep. On some lines, locals and wayfreights hold down the night shift so as not to delay commuter or priority trains. You'll have to stay up pretty late to catch the action on Jon Hill's layout, but it'll be worth it!

Before and after
The transformation from bare benchwork to a detailed, street-running scene is truly amazing on this model railroad built by @tcostello105_official. Streetlights and well-illuminated storefronts make the scene just as dynamic when the layout room lights are off.

International crossing
With a bustling urban canyon below, a convoy of tractor-trailers hauls freight over the Blue Water Bridge to Canada. Built by @huronsouthdetroit this scene is inspired by the international crossing between Port Huron, Mich., and Sarnia, Ont. |
Taking the night train
A traveler takes one last glance out the window before the train pulls out of town.
Poster @upcollector added interior lights and figures to this Union Pacific coach.
