Backbone of industry
Oil, ore, and wooden knobs all travel by rail on John Mueller’s outstanding HO scale Chicago & North Western layout. As this trackside scene exemplifies, railroads in the mid-century time period that John models carried the fuel that kept homes heated and the raw materials that kept industry running.

Follow the Flags
Many model railroaders use skewer-type uncoupling picks to separate cars. These tools also have a way of disappearing between operating sessions. Poster @potash_pat got tired of losing his uncoupling tools, so he come up with the above clever solution. His uncouplers double as flag poles in the switching areas around his layout for easy storage and access.

Catch of the Day
Looks like this stretch of the river is a popular spot for fisherman and railfans alike. Even if the fish aren’t biting, you’re sure to catch an excellent view of the local freight. Bryce Walat created this idyllic scene.
