Mountains and city scenes

Lots of impressive work is being done by our model railroading friends out on social media. Check out the links below. There’s sure to be something to inspire a project or two this weekend.

King of the Mountain
Decked out in classic orange paint schemes, two BNSF diesels barrel out of a tunnel on their way through the Mojave Sub to Tehachapi. In addition to some excellent rockwork, the HO scene also features realistic slide fences to protect against falling rocks. To see more of this exceptional layout built by Volker Meissner follow @bnsfuprailroader. |
Steel Rails
Through the City Led by three modern diesels, an intermodal train snakes through the yard in this carefully crafted urban scene on Luis May’s model railroad. The layout features a variety of kit-built and kitbashed structures, as well as carefully placed vehicles and other details that capture the city setting.

Mainline Motel
With a trackside Starbucks in close proximity, this quaint motel should prove a popular getaway for railfans. Poster @twinlakeswesternHO built and painted the Walthers Cornerstone structure.

N Scale Triple Track
Featuring an engine terminal with a roundhouse and turntable as its signature scene, Michael Peltier’s N scale layout is off to a great start. He built the benchwork using two 4 x 8-foot sheets of plywood on tables.

Decapod Thunder
We can almost feel the ground shake and smell the cinders as two Pennsylvania RR class I1sa Decapods thunder out of Allentown with a coal drag in tow. Poster @ho_trains_on_the_floor shot this video of the Pennsy 2-10-0 steamers working the HO scale main at the Lehigh & Keystone Valley Model Railroad Museum.
